Sparling and Candela are merging with Stantec

February 4, 2015 - North American design firm Stantec (TSX, NYSE:STN) will further enhance its West Coast presence and position as a building design leader through a merger with Sparling, a 130-person design firm and Candela, its lighting design division.  A recognized industry authority in electrical engineering and architectural lighting design, the company has award-winning expertise in technology, wireless, audiovisual, lighting and acoustic design. Sparling has offices in Seattle, San Diego, and Portland, OR with a list of top-tier public and private sector clients. The transaction is expected to close in late February.

Touching Seattle and Beyond
Following nearly seven decades of operation, Sparling has serviced clients in Seattle and around the globe, working a variety of sectors, including healthcare, corporate/commercial, entertainment, academics, government, military, and hospitality, among others. Large-scale projects in the firm’s portfolio include:

  • Amazon (Seattle) – For’s Seattle South Union Campus, Sparling has provided electrical engineering and oversight on more than 3 million square feet of facilities owned by the international brand.
  • University of Washington Medical Center Montlake Tower (Seattle) The 273,000 square foot was complemented with Sparling’s design in several areas, including 30 oncology beds, 39 single room NICU’s and hybrid procedure rooms.
  • Lincoln Square (Bellevue) – When this landmark 1.4 million-square foot development opened in 2005, Sparling provided a full suite of design services to support the project. Currently, the firm is providing electrical engineering, and consulting for lighting, technology, and acoustics for the expansion which includes a 710,000 square-foot office building with areas for retail, dining and entertainment. 
  • University of California San Diego Jacobs Medical Center (San Diego) – For the University of California San Diego Jacobs Medical Center, Sparling is providing technology consulting, audio/visual, wireless and DAS design. 
  • University of Oregon (Eugene, OR) – In the higher education arena, Sparling completed the electrical engineering, audio/visual, technology, and lighting design for the University of Oregon Hatfield-Dowlin Complex
